Engineer, Product Manager

Zehnder America Inc. provides high-quality ventilation solutions to promote comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient indoor living. Zehnder America is a division of the Zehnder Group, headquartered in Switzerland. The Zehnder Group is represented worldwide and specializes in advanced heating, cooling, and ventilation technology.

This position is specific to Mechanical Ventilation, the Energy and Heat Recovery Ventilation market. The role uses the technical capabilities of an engineering background to manage the product portfolio while being an internal and external resource that can provide guidance and insight as needed.

The role of the Product Manager is to develop and manage products by identifying potential products; supporting market research; generating product requirements; determining specifications, and helping inform production timetables, pricing, and market introduction strategies.

You will join a dynamic and fast-paced environment and work with cross-functional teams to design, roll-out and support products that deliver the company’s vision and strategy.

Responsibilities

General:

  • Become an expert in Zehnder products and technology.
  • Gain understanding of the company’s key market segments (e.g. Passive House, Net Zero and other high-performance building, healthy homes/building, etc.).
  • Gain understanding of customer experience to help identify and fill product gaps and develop and/or update products that improve customer experience and drive growth of the company’s market share.
  • Provide peer level support for developing others in areas of technical expertise.

Product development:

  • Help assess market competition by comparing the company's products to competitors’ products.
  • Help define the nature and scope of product lines by reviewing product specifications and requirements, appraising new product ideas and/or product changes.
  • Support marketing communication objectives by clarifying distinguishing product features, providing source data, and helping formulate product claims and emphases.
  • Help review return-on-investment analyses and product development schedules.
  • Develop necessary new product documentation (e.g. User Manual, Installation Instructions and Service Manual).
  • Manage new product testing, certification, and listing (e.g. UL, HVI, CSA, PHI).

Product management:

  • Use market feedback from sales and field service teams to identify valuable product updates.
  • Update product technical documentation as necessary regarding operational features, product dimensions, performance data, etc.
  • Manage existing product verification testing and listing (e.g. UL, HVI, CSA, PHI).
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and codes and standards organizations to protect and enhance application of the company’s products (e.g. HVI, ASHRAE, UL).

Sales and Service Support:

Support the sales and field service teams with technical expertise as they…

  • Respond to questions from architects, engineers, dealers, installers, and residential customers.
  • Provide technical assistance, system design guidance and installation support.
  • Troubleshoot H/ERV and air distribution component issues.

Procurement Support:

Support the purchasing manager with technical expertise as they…

  • Transition to domestic production of imported components.
  • Source new products and/or components.
  • Establish quality control guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Engineering or Technical HVAC Field
  • Solid understanding of basic electrical and mechanical principles
  • Ability to think logically to solve complex problems.
  • Solid analytical and technical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills
  • Thermodynamics experience a plus
  • HVAC and ERV/HRV experience a plus
  • Familiarity with UL standards helpful
  • Ability to develop product and marketing strategies and effectively communicate recommendations.

Minimum experience:

  • 3 yrs. Of relevant experience supporting mechanical ventilation products preferred or
  • 5 yrs. of experience in engineering or technical position
  • The ability, willingness, and drive to learn and grow within the organization.

Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
